The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe established Leech Lake Tribal College (LLTC) in July 1990. Leech Lake Tribal College (LLTC) is located on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation in north central Minnesota. LLTC provides quality higher education grounded in Anishinaabe values and endeavors to serve as the center of academic excellence that advances Anishinaabe worldviews and empowers lifelong learners to be fully engaged citizens, stewards, and leaders.
LLTC offers associate degrees in the areas of the arts and humanities and natural sciences and technology. Diploma and certificate subjects include business management, construction technology, residential carpentry, integrated residential building, early childhood education, and law enforcement.
LLTC operates an early childhood center and offers a learning center, walking trail, smoke-free campus, drum room, feeding room for new mothers, rocketry club, and basketball for men and women. It was recognized in 2010 by Washington Monthly as one of “America’s 50 Best Community Colleges” and ranked seventh best community college in the nation (only one of only two tribal community colleges to earn this recognition).
