Fund Supporters Tour Northwest Indian College

An intimate group of American Indian College Fund (The Fund) supporters headed to the Pacific Northwest June 12-15. The group attended a seminar on American Indian History and Policy and visited Northwest Indian College (NWIC) on the Lummi Reservation near Bellingham, Washington.

The Fund president and CEO Richard B. Williams and NWIC faculty member Sharon Kinley presented the seminar. Kinley also discussed the desecration of burial sites on Swinomish lands.

In addition to visiting NWIC, participants toured the college's aquaculture program, rode on the NWIC boat, toured the Lummi reservation, visited tribal elders in their homes, and participated in the Stommish Water Festival.

Participants also attended NWIC's graduation ceremony and congratulated the graduates for achieving their education goals.

The Fund is offering another unique tribal college tour to western Montana from September 7-13, 2008. Participants will meet students at four tribal colleges and visit Glacier National Park, historic mission churches, Bear Paw Battlefield, and a buffalo jump site.

There is still time to register. For more information contact: Lucia Novara 303-426-8900, lnovara@collegefund.org.
