At the American Indian College Fund, we value your support and your privacy is very important to us. Our site is a secure environment for anyone who visits, makes a donation, or purchases products. The purpose of this statement is to share with you our policy concerning the collection of data and personal information while ensuring the highest level of confidentiality, security, and privacy for our supporters.
When you visit our site, we collect some non-identifying basic information. This includes total number of visitors, pages viewed and other non-identifying information. We use this aggregate information to improve our site and to make your experience on our website as smooth as possible.
On-line Donation Forms
We do not collect personally identifiable information from you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. When you request information or donate, for example, we may collect the following information: first and last name, street address, city, state, zip code, telephone number, email address, subject of inquiry and payment information. If you complete the Profile update form or make a donation on our web site with personally identifying information, we may use your contact information to send further information about our organization to you or to contact you when necessary. You may always opt out of receiving future mailings; see the “Opt Out” section below.
The information you transmit to us on this site travels by encryption. The companies we work with to process your online donation payments and product purchases also use encryption and security protocols. The information you provide is stored in a secure location, and is accessible only by designated employees trained in the proper handling of customer information.
We do not collect personally identifiable information unless you provide it to us knowingly and voluntarily.
Your information is privileged and confidential and will not be shared or released to any organization or business entity other than those affiliated with or working in conjunction with the American Indian College Fund. We do not give or sell your personal information to any outside company for its use in marketing or solicitation.
Like many other non-profit organizations, we sometimes make available only our contributor names and postal addresses to companies, predominantly other non-profit organizations. This practice helps us reduce costs of reaching more individuals with information related to our mission. These organizations are carefully screened. Names and addresses are provided on a one-time basis; therefore these organizations will not have continued access to your name and address unless you choose to respond to them directly, which you are always free to choose to do. You may request that we not share, sell, or exchange your information for third party fundraising or marketing purposes by sending your request to the American Indian College Fund, 8333 Greenwood Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80221 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
You may choose to restrict internal and external sharing of your personal information. We recognize that you may wish to limit the ways in which we contact you. When you make a donation, you can request that the College Fund not share your contact information with other non-profit organizations; that we not contact you or share your information with anyone; or that we only contact you once a year.

If you do not wish to opt out when making an on-line donation, you may do so at a later date should you so desire. You cannot remove yourself from our database, but you can prevent unwanted communication. Note to Parents and Children
The American Indian College Fund does not knowingly collect or maintain any personal information from children under the age of 13. In addition, no part of our site is designed with the purpose of attracting any person under age 13.
How We Provide a Secure Environment for On-line Transactions
The American Indian College Fund’s on-line processing system allows you to make secure donations and purchases. We use the latest encryption technology to insure that no one can read your information as it travels to our system.
Our on-line credit card verification system is handled by a third party, which collects your name, address, phone, and credit card number and expiration date in order to process your transaction. Their encryption technology offers a secure technology to insure the confidentiality of your transactions.

Donor Bill of Rights
“The American Indian College Fund’s mission is to raise scholarship funds for American Indian students at qualified tribal colleges and universities and to generate broad awareness of those institutions and the College Fund itself. The organization also raises resources for other needs at the schools, including capital projects, operations, endowments, or program initiatives, and it will conduct fundraising and related activities for any other Board-directed initiatives.”
A major strategic initiative is to assure that “the American Indian College Fund will be one of the premier American Indian organizations in the country. We will honor and practice organizational values of respect, relationships, responsibility, reasoning and reciprocity. The American Indian College Fund will have the highest standards for all operations across all departments and practice consistent processes that produce positive, decisive results for constituents and employees.” As a part of this initiative, the Fund is committed to meet high standards of accountability to earn our donors deepest confidence.
We endorse and adopt the “Donor’s Bill of Rights” developed by the American Association of Fund Raising Counsel, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. This document has also been endorsed by other organizations including the Independent Sector, the National Catholic Development Conference, the National Committee on Planned Giving, the National Council for Resource Development and the United Way of America, among others.

“Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.”

Scholarship Applicant Confidentiality Policy
The College Fund highly values the concepts of privacy and confidentiality. It is the College Fund’s policy that only the applicant, College Fund staff members (including application reviewers), and faculty/staff at the applicant’s college have access to application and award information. Applicants do, however, give permission for the College Fund to share limited demographic information with scholarship donors, their school, and the media as a part of the application process. Information about an application and/or scholarship award will be released to third parties (including parents, spouses and other relatives) only with the express written consent of the student. Information about applications and awards will only be discussed with the applicant unless we have written authorization to do otherwise. While we look forward to a cooperative and productive relationship with the relatives of our applicants, we have a duty to respect privacy, and our primary relationship is with the student.
