For more than 120 years Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU) has educated generations of Native American students. The school opened to provide training in the trades and agricultural education and evolved from a residential boarding school to a secondary school to a vocational-technical institution during the first half of the 20th century. In 1970 it began offering a post-secondary curriculum, and in 1993 the school changed its current name of Haskell Indian Nations University to reflect its vision to serve as a national center for Indian education, research, and cultural preservation.
HINU offers a variety of degree programs. Bachelor’s degree areas of study are environmental science, elementary education, business administration, and American Indian studies. Associate degree areas of study include art, social work, speech communications, theatre, literature, media communications, natural sciences, community health, and business administration.
The university boasts a robust sports program. HINU attracts students from more than 130 tribes nationwide and offers student housing, clubs, and many activities.
