Gala Featuring Broadway Star Michael Cavanaugh to Increase Native College Graduates

January 20, 2016

Only 13.6% of American Indian students have earned a college degree—half of the national average. You can help change that. The American Indian College Fund Gala will be held March 1, 2016 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers to support American Indian education.

The evening’s program will feature headline entertainment by Michael Cavanaugh, the New Voice of the American Rock & Roll Songbook. Cavanaugh is a charismatic performer, musician and actor, made famous for his piano/lead vocals in the Broadway Musical “Movin’ Out.”

Michael Cavanaugh was hand-picked by Billy Joel to star in title role and evokes a style rivaling the Piano Man. Michael appeared in the show for three years and more than 1,200 performances, receiving accolade after accolade culminating in both Grammy and Tony award nominations in 2003.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with American Indian College Fund Student Ambassadors and students from the prestigious Institute of American Indian Arts based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A selection of original artwork created by these talented students will be available for purchase at the event.
