PENDLETON® AND THE AMERICAN INDIAN COLLEGE FUND® JOIN HANDS

CELEBRATING NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH and GIVING TUESDAY

November 20, 2018, Denver, Colo.—Pendleton Woolen Mills, Portland, Oregon, joins the nation in celebrating Native American Heritage Month, honoring the achievements and contributions of Native Americans. In tribute, Pendleton is honored to share the philanthropic ideal of Giving Tuesday to benefit the American Indian College Fund.

On Giving Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 12:01 a.m. until midnight, Pendleton Woolen Mills will contribute ten percent of the retail price of any American Indian College Fund blanket to the College Fund. Pendleton’s website, pendleton-usa.com, its own stores and outlets will honor the Giving Tuesday pricing; not offered at affiliate stores or independent retailers. Visit the Pendleton website to see the entire American Indian College Fund collection.

Each year a new blanket is introduced in the College Fund collection. In 2018 “Butterfly” was created to honor Lakota leader, Sitting Bull, who worked tirelessly for Native American rights.  Sitting Bull College on Standing Rock Reservation memorializes his efforts – and demonstrates the American Indian College Fund’s belief that education can transform the future.  The caterpillar’s transformation to a butterfly mirrors the transformative impact of education.

Butterfly joins eight other storied blanket designs including Future of the Plains baby blanket; Nike N7, Earth Blanket, Raven and the Box of Knowledge, Water Blanket, Gift of the Earth, Eagle Saddle Blanket and Naskan Saddle Blanket.

Giving Tuesday’s donation complements Pendleton’s royalty support from proceeds of each College Fund blanket sold year-round. In 1990, Pendleton established an endowed scholarship with the College Fund, today valued at more than $700,000.

Sales of these blankets and the endowment make a difference in the lives of students throughout the country. More than 1,000 deserving Native students have received scholarships to attend tribal colleges from the Pendleton scholarship fund.
