Student and Institutional Success

Dollar General Literacy Foundation

The American Indian College Fund’s Dollar General American Indian and Alaska Native Literacy and Adult Education Program aims to improve and support student and adult literacy in tribal communities by increasing the number of American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN) pursuing and achieving their General Education Diploma (GED) and/or High School Equivalency (HSE) credentials.

Like the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF), the College Fund’s Dollar General American Indian and Alaska Native Literacy and Adult Education Program is committed to helping individuals of all ages receive the educational foundation they need to succeed in post-secondary education opportunities. Through the program, we are improving adult literacy by providing life-changing services to the most educationally underrepresented ethnic or racial group in the United States. We are building the education and employment pipeline and developing models for success in HSE and GED attainment for American Indian and Alaska Native people and communities.

What’s New

#NativeScholar Hamilton is 1 of the 42% of American Indians who are 24 years old or younger. With nearly half the population being school-aged, we have the chance to provide transformational support & we need your help! Give by Oct 19 to double your gift:

Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting Native women & the second leading cause of cancer death. Today, on #IndigenousPinkDay, we stand in solidarity with @AICAF_Org as they raise #BreastCancerAwareness in Native communities. #EducationIsTheAnswer

Poverty & unemployment in Native communities are double the rate of the overall population. Today on the #Eradicationofpovertyday, help ensure #NativeScholars like Kaylie have the resources they need to succeed. All gifts will be matched until Oct. 19.

#NativeAmericans are nearly 4X as likely to experience food insecurity, & as a result of forced relocation, we've been unable to continue our traditional food practices.

54% of #NativeAmericans live in rural areas & 64% of @collegefund scholars are female. By supporting the College Fund, you're supporting programs designed to develop Native women leaders. #InternationalDayofRuralWomen

TY @get_coddle, @dontlookback_co, @SelfWorthFound & all our friends across the nation for supporting #TheNativeJourney & celebrating #IndigenousPeoplesDay. We're inspired by each person, organization, & city honoring Native communities. Give today:

Higher education provides our #NativeScholars with choices they wouldn’t otherwise have & the power to create a stronger future for themselves & their communities. By celebrating #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we show our Native scholars that they're not alone.
