Through several new initiatives, the College of Menominee Nation (CMN) is working to build relationships with families to support family well-being, support strong relationships between parents and children, and engage pre-service teacher education students in family engagement activities. First, at least once a month, CMN holds a Lunch and Learn for families, engaging parents in areas such as early literacy and relationship-building. These sessions have been focused on teaching parents how to deal with difficult issues and situations with their children (e.g., tantrums) and selecting strong books to read to and with their children. Second, CMN has started College 4 Kids on Saturdays, partnering with the county library to offer opportunities for families to learn together. Each month, there is a different theme for the event; in December, the theme was “Winter Festival.” Finally, across both of these initiatives, CMN has engaged their TCU early childhood education students to participate, developing these students’ knowledge and experience working with children and families.
