Dr. Cynthia Lindquist, President, Cankdeska Cikana Community College, serving the Spirit Lake Dakota community, has published The Unique Role of Tribal Colleges and Universities in Diversity & Democracy magazine.

This issue, titled Valuing Strengths, Fostering Success, focuses on the issues low-income students face when they come to college, including rising costs, juggling family and work responsibilities, and difficulties navigating predominantly middle-class norms on campus, as well as basic food and housing insecurity. Contributors describe their work and identify and break down barriers to student success.
