Save the Department of Education!

President Trump signed an executive order to dismantle and eliminate the Department of Education. Although the President’s attempt to scale back and eliminate the department will cause irreparable harm, shuttering education programs that help students of all ages that need it the most—like needier school districts and children with disabilities—from kindergarten to college.

The Department of Education funds schools with high percentages of low-income students and ensures disabled students can access to a free public education. It also helps prepare students at high-poverty middle and high schools for college, assists low- and middle-income college students, and funds work-study programs, rehabilitative services, school improvement efforts, education research, civil rights protections in education institutions for students, much more, In addition to the Pell Grant and federal student loan programs.

Despite the Administration’s efforts to close the Department of Education, an Act of Congress is needed to officially eliminate it.

Call your elected officials today and ask them to oppose H.R. 899 (which would eradicate the Department of Education by December 31, 2026) and President Trump’s Executive Order to dismantle the Department of Education to protect the vital programs and protections that serve our nation’s students.

Note: This bill is in the first stage of the legislative process. It was introduced into Congress on January 31, 2025, and will typically be considered by committee before it is possibly sent on to the House or Senate as a whole. Contact your elected officials today! To find their contact information, please visit usa.gov. If you are leaving a voicemail, please include your full street address to ensure your call is tallied.
