Jun 9, 2011 | Archives, Blog

Red Cross officials said today that sandbags are in place in Bismarck and the sourrounds and now the people are waiting for the waters to rise while hoping the levees and dikes hold. “We are in a holding pattern,” said Melanie Moen, Emergency Services Director of the Red Cross for the Bismarck area.

On the Standing Rock Reservation, sandbagging continues to ensure that the road leading to a portion of the reservation that is on an island holds.

Other tribal communities that are anticipated to be impacted by flooding include the Turtle Mountain and Spirit Lake Reservations, along with United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota, which is also providing emergency services for the surrounding community of Bismarc

Aerial photos available here of the road leading to the Spirit Lake Reservation which has experienced flooding along the road to the reservation, cutting off many people’s egress.
