The Spirit of Sovereignty Foundation, the charitable arm of the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA), recently granted $50,000 to the American Indian College Fund (the Fund) to support the Spirit of Sovereignty Scholarship Program. Established in 2008, this program awards scholarships to Native American students attending our nation’s tribal colleges and universities (TCUs). This most recent gift is an installment of a total contribution of $150,000 which provided a $2,000 scholarship to a student at each of the TCUs for both the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters.

The Forest County Potawatomi Community Foundation of Milwaukee, Wisconsin granted the American Indian College Fund (the Fund) $20,000. One half of the grant will establish the Forest County Potawatomi Community Foundation Tribal College Scholarship Program, which will assist students pursuing degrees at the nation’s tribal colleges and universities.

Through a donation of $20,000, the Morgan Stanley Foundation is continuing its partnership with the American Indian College Fund (the Fund) to support American Indian education. The Morgan Stanley Foundation Tribal Scholars Program provides much-needed financial assistance to American Indian students pursuing degrees in business or business-related programs who have an interest in the financial services industry at tribal colleges and mainstream institutions.

Oregon-based Pendleton Woolen Mills has donated $39,000 to establish an endowed scholarship program benefitting American Indian tribal college student scholarships through a partnership with the American Indian College Fund (the Fund). This endowed scholarship program, entitled the Pendleton Endowment, will provide financial assistance to Native students attending any of the 33 tribal colleges located throughout the United States.

The Tierney Family Foundation has granted the American Indian College Fund with a $15,000 grant for scholarships for American Indian students. The grant will support qualified American Indian students who show academic achievement and involvement in their communities by providing financial resources to encourage them to complete a college degree.

The Palo Alto, California-based Meta Lilienthal Scholarship Fund has granted the American Indian College Fund $13,000 for American Indian student scholarships. The Oak Brook, Illinois-based Rundgren Foundation granted the American Indian College Fund $12,000 for scholarships for American Indian students. The Helen Roberti Charitable Trust has granted the American Indian College Fund $24,000 for scholarships for American Indian students. The foundation has provided the grant to support qualified American Indian students who show academic achievement and involvement in their communities by providing financial resources to encourage them to complete a college degree.
