Leech Lake Tribal College students teamed up with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota to install a community solar garden to help residents as part of the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Students participating earned their solar installation licenses as part of the program. The photovoltaic panels they installed will generate approximately 235 megawatts of electricity a year. In cold northern Minnesota, this will help around 100 families get affordable power, helping them keep the heat and lights on during the long, cold northern Minnesota winters.
