The title is a song that has been skipping in my memory since I realized my feelings trumped my view: specifically the view of a barren, arid, desert landscape I passed through from a happy place to a place I have been in, pondering my emotions.

We all have our favorite activities and pastimes that magnify the summer season.  Among the most common are reading novels while swinging in a hammock under a shade tree, watching the sun dance with the  branches, sippin’  on an ice- cold- fresh- squeezed big gulp size tumbler of lemonade, jumping out of a tire swing into our favorite swimming hole, and letting our sweat drenched hair form their own string.

New Pell Grant Policy to Hurt Non-traditional Native Students

Many non-traditional students reenter college many years after a first unsuccessful try at higher education. They may have been unsuccessful due to poor study skills; poor preparation for college due to ineffective high schools; lack of discipline; lack of financial or family support; or a combination of several factors.

Native Students Honored at AIHEC Conference

Over the weekend the American Indian College Fund held two events at the AIHEC Student Conference. On Saturday night the 33 American Indian College Fund Students of the Year (SOY) were recognized. Also honored was Dr. Verna Fowler (President of College of Menominee Nation) as the TCU President of the Year.

Kony 2012 Video Underscores Charities’ Need for Accountability to Donors and Communities

The Kony 2012 video, created by the nonprofit fundraising group Invisible Children, has touched a nerve with millions of people around the globe. The video proves that fundraising has entered the era of social media. But as with any other form of fundraising, non-profit organizations need to be vigilant about maintaining their credibility and trusted relationships when using social media.

Interested in a NASA Internship?

Outstanding American Indian students who are majoring in a science, technology, engineering, or math field with at least a 3.0 GPA are eligible for NASA MUST (Motivating Students in Science and Technology) scholarships that cover half of their tuition up to $10,000. As part of the program, students also participate in a 10-week summer internship at one of NASA’s centers. The internships pay $6,000.
