December 17, 2021– The Student Success Services team had a surprise visitor at its booth last week at the 44th Lakota Nation Invitational in Rapid City, South Dakota. Actor Zahn McClarnon, starring in the 2021 FX on Hulu series Reservation Dogs (also known for his performances in Longmire, Fargo, and Westworld) stopped by to say hello. Zahn is a big supporter of the College Fund and has shared his experiences and expertise with student ambassadors over the years.

The College Fund team was at LNI to talk to future college students about scholarships and programs. LNI includes student competitions in events like basketball, golf, track and field, and cheerleading. A Knowledge Bowl tests students’ academic achievements. The week also includes art competitions, business events, a traditional hand game tournament, and storytelling.

The College Fund team was thrilled to meet Zahn in “real life” outside of the Zoom universe!

We share with sadness the news of the passing of two tribal college leaders in January. Their stories of leadership and wisdom follow. We pray for both Dr. Jim Davis and Dr. Monty Roessel to have a good journey to be with our ancestors and for strength and peace for their families, friends, and communities.
