Joseph Morales Student Ambassador

Joseph Morales, Student Ambassador

College Fund student ambassador, Joseph Morales (Tohono O’odham Nation), shares his parallel journey of navigating higher education while discovering his Native identity in the most recent episode of the Tohono O’odham Young Voices podcast.

For Joseph, education was always the path he envisioned for himself, but Covid-19 forced him to slow down and reflect on the part of his identity he never felt truly connected to — his Native culture. His turning point came when he found Tohono O’odham Community College, where he discovered his love for writing. His tribal college was an impactful steppingstone, and Joseph is continuing his education at Arizona State University (ASU).

At ASU, Joseph is honing his journalism skills so he can give back to his community by shining light on stories of Native life that are often overlooked by mainstream media — but are no less important to share and celebrate.

Listen to Joseph’s reflections on turning a feeling of disconnection into an opportunity to explore the paths of identity, culture, and community in meaningful ways.

This work brings together six geographically separate community segments across the expansive homelands of the MHA Nation!
