For TCUs and Native organizations, those in higher education, and tribal representatives it is extremely important to review these bills and policies, which go beyond attacking the 2SLGTBQ+ community and include language that threaten the rights and autonomy of women, parents, educators and education, the healthcare system, and Indigenous sovereignty.
Travis Richard (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe) has been named as the 2023 winner of the American Indian College Fund’s (College Fund) Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ Initiatives T-Shirt Design Contest. The goal of this contest was to raise visibility of 2SLGBTQ+ identity at tribal colleges and universities (TCUs) as well as in Native communities.
With this, as Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ tribal college students, you might be right out of high school, and you might be returning much later in life. While the educational journey is not the same for anyone, the path of sorting through how you identify along the 2SLGBTQ+ spectrum will also not be the same for anyone. And while on that path, your understanding of your identity will likely change and evolve many times, and this is the experience of being alive.
