The Center for Native American Youth (CNAY) named Chelysa Owens-Cyr (Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux, Pasqua First Nations Plains Cree and Saulteaux) as its 2022 Creative Native Grand Prize Winner. The Creative Native is an annual Call for Art event within CNAY’s Generation Indigenous program.
The American Indian College Fund selected and trained 11 new student ambassadors for its 2022-23 cohort. Now in its eighth year, the College Fund Student Ambassador Program gives Indigenous students the leadership and communications skills to create greater visibility of Native Americans and an understanding of the importance of their diverse cultures.
Free program is open to students from high school to graduate school and education professionals serving Indigenous students.
Congratulations to Jessica Arkeketa (of the Jiwere Nut’achi (Otoe-Missouria) and Muscogee Creek from Tulsa, Oklahoma), an American Indian College Fund Full Circle scholar who is one of 11 students selected to participate in the Udall Foundation’s class of 2022 as a Congressional intern.
The American Indian College Fund and Pendleton Woolen Mills, the international lifestyle brand headquartered in Portland, Oregon, have selected Deshawna Anderson’s “The Courage to Bloom” as its 2020 Tribal College Blanket Contest winner. Anderson is an enrolled member of the Crow nation, an American Indian College Fund scholar, and a student attending Little Big Horn College, a tribal college in Crow Agency, Montana. She is studying business administration.
