President Trump is calling for significant cuts to the Department of Education for the fiscal year 2018 in his “skinny budget.” A skinny budget is a proposal for a budget in all areas, with the details for a comprehensive budget deferred to be worked out later, while showing how the proposed high-level budget numbers will impact the deficit over the coming decade.

As a staff member with the College Fund, I had the honor to attend the spring Scholarship Awards Night at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) to witness 260 students moving one step closer towards their educational goals. The event awarded 534 College Fund scholarships to 260 students totaling $519,906.

The American Indian College Fund honors Della Bad Wound and Frank Sherwood, two American Indian elders from the Denver community, at their annual Denver Elders Dinner on Tuesday, December 6 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at The Cable Center, the University of Denver, 2000 Buchtel Boulevard in Denver, Colorado. Three hundred American Indian elders attend the traditional buffalo feast, which honors them and offer thanks for all elders’ guidance throughout the year.
Robin began her academic career at Diné College, where she graduated in 2014 with dual associate degrees in Diné studies and behavioral science in 2014. After completing her first research internship in Washington, D.C. she went home to visit her mother before starting classes for her bachelor’s degree at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA).
Our Native Pathways team embarked on a trip to Alaska to visit Ilisagvik College and Barrow High School. I thought my five hour plane trip to college every semester was a major journey. Barrow is situated on the northernmost part of the United States, in other words, the “top of the world.”
